Superfine Alpaca Hat & Scarf

Alpaca Paint Hat and Scarf or Neckwarmer

Materials: 3 - 100 gram skeins Estelle Superfine Alpaca Paint

5mm, 6mm, 6.5mm needles

Cable needle, stitch markers and holders

Note: to make the scarf longer, purchase an additional skein of Alpaca


Hat (knit flat) Note: Work Hat first:

With 5mm needle cast on 73sts. Work 4 rows of K1, P1 rib. Change to 6mm needle and work in pattern as follows: *work 13

sts K1, P1 rib, work 12 sts of chart (increasing 1 st in middle of first row), repeat from * to * two more times (76sts). Cont in

pattern as set for a total of 26 rows from band (approx 4 ½ inches).

Next row (decrease): *sl1, K1, psso, work to last 2 sts of rib section as set, K2tog, work 12 sts of chart, repeat from * to * two

more times. Repeat this dec row every alt row 4 more times 3 sts remain in rib sections (46 sts total).

Next RS row: *k3tog, work 12 rows of chart, repeat from * to * two more times (40 sts)

Next RS row: *purl the first edge st and the first st of the chart tog and the last 2 sts of chart tog, work remainder of chart as set,

repeat from * to * two more times. (34 sts)

Next RS row: repeat previous row (28 sts)

Next RS row: p2tog, *k2tog 3 times, p3tog * rep from * to * ending with k2tog 3 times, p2tog (13 sts)

Next WS row: *k1, p3tog * rep from * to * (7 sts)

Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread yarn through the 7 remaining sts and pull together. Sew hat’s seam closed catching only

half of the edge st on either side.


Scarf:

With 6mm needle cast on 37sts. Work 4 rows of K1, P1 rib.

Change to 6 ½ mm needle. Work in pattern as follows: Work in rib as set for 13 sts, work 12 sts of chart (increasing 1 st in

middle of first row), work in rib as set for 13 sts (38 sts).

Continue in pattern as set. When scarf measures approx 39” from cast on (measured hanging) end chart with 8 rows after last

cable, dec 1 st in last row. Work in K1, P1 rib for 4 rows. Cast off loosely.


Superfine Alpaca Neckwarmer

Approximate Size: 7” x 26”

Materials: 1 100g skeins Estelle Superfine Alpaca Paint

6mm needles

5 1” buttons

Gauge: 16sts = 4” in stocking stitch on 6mm needle. Adjust needle size to obtain gauge. (Note: There will be very little Alpaca remaining so exact gauge is important)

Cast on 27 sts. Knit 4 rows.

Row 1 (multiple buttonholes row) RS: K3, yo, k2tog, k8, yo, k2tog, k7, k2tog, yo, k3

Row 2 WS: K3, *(p3, k3) 4 times

Row 3: Knit

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until work meas 3 ½”, ending with RS facing.

Next row (single buttonhole row): Knit to last 5 sts, k2tog, yo, k3

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until work meas 6” from cast on ending with RS facing.

Next row (single buttonhole row): Knit to last 5 sts, k2tog, yo, k3

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until work meas approx 25” from cast on.

Knit 4 rows. Cast off. Block the neckwarmer.

Fold neckwarmer so that the multiple buttonhole row is parallel with the long edge of the neckwarmer. Sew on buttons to

correspond with buttonholes.
