Size 6.5 mm (U.S. 10�) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.

9 sts and 17 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in Seed St pat with 3 strands tog.

INSTRUCTIONS
EARFLAP (make 2).
With 3 strands of yarn, cast on 5 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. (P1. K1) twice.
2nd row: K1. M1. P1. K1. P1. M1. K1. 7 sts.
3rd row: K1. (K1. P1) twice. K2.
4th row: K1. M1. (K1. P1) twice. K1. M1. K1. 9 sts.
5th row: K1. (P1. K1) 4 times.
6th row: K1. M1. (P1. K1) 3 times. P1. M1. K1. 11 sts.
7th row: K1. (K1. P1) 4 times. K2.
8th row: K1. M1. (K1. P1) 4 times. K1. M1. K1. 13 sts.
9th row: K1. (P1. K1) 6 times.
Rep last row of Seed St Pat until work from beg measures 4� ins [11.5 cm], ending with a WS row. Break yarn. Leave sts on a spare needle.

Body of Hat: (Joining row).
With 3 strands of yarn, cast on 2 sts. (K1. P1) across these 2 sts. Pat across 13 sts of first Earflap. Cast on 13 sts. Pat across 13 sts of second Earflap. Cast on 2 sts. 43 sts.
Work in Seed St Pat until work from joining row measures 4 ins [10 cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape top: 1st row: (K19. K2tog) twice. K1. 41 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit.
3rd row: *K6. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 36 sts.
5th row: *K5. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 31 sts.
7th row: *K4. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 26 sts.
9th row: *K3. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 21 sts.
