Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 4-1/2 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Cable needle. 2 st holders.

TENSION
25 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in Cable Pat.

STITCH GLOSSARY
C6B
= slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
C6F = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK
**With smaller needles cast on 87 (93-99-111) sts.
1st row: (RS). K3. *P3. K3. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P3. *K3. P3. Rep from * to end of row.
These 2 rows form (K3. P3) ribbing.
Cont in (K3. P3) ribbing until work from beg measures 2 ins [5 cm], ending on a 2nd row and inc 17 (19-19-17) sts evenly across last row. 104 (112-118-128) sts.

Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K4 (3-1-1). *C6B. K4. Rep from * to last 10 (9-7-7) sts. C6B. K4 (3-1-1).
Beg with purl row, work 7 rows in stocking st.
9th row: K9 (8-6-6). *C6F. K4. Rep from * to last 15 (14-12-12) sts. C6F. K9 (8-6-6).
Beg with purl row, work 7 rows in stocking st.
These 16 rows form Shadow Cable Pat.
Cont in pat, dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 4th row twice more. 98 (106-112-122) sts.
Cont even in pat for 10 rows.
Inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 8th row twice more. 104 (112-118-128) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 15½ (16-17-17) ins [39.5 (40.5-43-43) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armholes: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 6 (8-8-9) sts beg next 2 rows. 92 (96-102-110) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next 3 rows, then every following alt row until there are 76 (76-80-84) sts.**
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 7¼ (-7¾-8) ins [18.5 (19-19.5-20.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape back neck and shoulders: Next row: Pat 19 (19-21-23) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Next row: P2tog. Purl to end of row.
Next row: Cast off 8 (8-9-10) sts. Pat to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Next row: P2tog. Purl to end of row. Cast off rem 8 (8-9-10) sts. With RS of work facing, slip next 38 sts onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and pat to end of row.
Next row: Purl to last 2 sts. P2togtbl.
Next row: Sl1. K1. psso. Pat to end of row.
Next row: Cast off 8 (8-9-10) sts. Purl to last 2 sts. P2togtbl.
Next row: Work even in pat. Cast off rem 8 (8-9-10) sts.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 4¼ (-4¾-5) ins [11 (11.5-12-12.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping: Next row: Pat 25 (25-27-29) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then every following alt row to 16 (16-18-20) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Cast off 8 (8-9-10) sts beg next row.
Purl 1 row even. Cast off rem 8 (8-9-10) sts. With RS of work facing, slip next 26 sts onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and pat to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then every following alt row to 16 (16-18-20) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back before shoulder shaping, ending with WS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Cast off 8 (8-9-10) sts beg next row.
Knit 1 row even. Cast off rem 8 (8-9-10) sts.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles cast on 45 sts and work 2 ins [5 cm] in (K3. P3) ribbing as given for Back ending on a 2nd row and inc 13 sts evenly across last row. 58 sts.

Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. *C6B. K4. Rep from * to last 7 sts. C6B. K1.
Beg with purl row, work 7 rows in stocking st.
9th row: Inc 1 st in first st. K5. *C6F. K4. Rep from * to last 12 sts. C6F. K4. Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
Beg with purl row, work 7 rows in stocking st.
These 16 rows form Shadow Cable Pat (with side inc).
Cont in pat, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following 6th rows until there are 74 (78-74-74) sts, then every following 8th row to 78 (82-84-88) sts taking inc sts into pat.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 18 (18½-18½-19) ins [45.5 (47-47-48) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape top: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 2 (3-3-4) sts beg next 2 rows. 74 (76-78-80) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows until there are 54 (54-50-50) sts, then on every row until there are 34 (34-38-38) sts.
Cast off 6 sts beg next 4 rows. Cast off rem 10 (10-14-14) sts.

FINISHING
Pin all garment pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.

Collar: Sew right shoulder seam. With RS of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 20 sts down left front neck edge. K26 from front st holder, dec 5 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 20 sts up right front neck edge and 3 sts down right back neck edge. K38 from back st holder, dec 6 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 3 sts up left back neck edge. 99 sts.
Beg on a 2nd row, work 3 ins [7.5 cm] in (K3. P3) ribbing as given for Back, change to larger needles and cont in (K3. P3) ribbing until collar from pick up row measures 7 ins [15 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in ribbing.

Sew left shoulder and Collar seam, reversing seam for fold to RS. Sew in Sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
