Classic Wool - Felted Bag with Motif (knit)

Pretty felted bag with simple looped flower motif. Measures approx. 15" (38 cm) wide x 11 1/2" (29 cm) high. Shown in Patons Classic Wool #207 Rich Red. 4.5 mm (US 7) double-pointed knitting needles. 1 set of snap fasteners.

FELTED MEASUREMENTS
Approx 15 ins [38 cm] wide x 11� ins [29 cm] high (excluding handles).

MATERIALS
Patons Classic Wool (100 g)
207 (Rich Red)4 balls

Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Set of four size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) double pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. 1 set of snap fasteners.

TENSION
20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS
Body
With pair of needles, cast on 100 sts.
Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 31 ins [78.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

Handles: (make 2). Cast on 11 sts. Divide sts evenly on 3 needles and place a marker on first st.
Knit in rnds until work from beg measures 33 ins [84 cm]. Cast off.

Cord for Motif
With pair of double pointed needles, cast on 4 sts.
1st row: K4. *Do not turn. Slide back to beg of needle. K4. Rep from * until work from beg measures 45 ins [114 cm]. Cast off.

FINISHING
Felt all pieces.
Felted piece for Body should measure approx 17 ins [43 cm] wide x 23 ins [58.5 cm] long. Felted pieces for handles should measure approx 1� ins [4.5 cm] wide x 24� ins [63 cm] long.
Cut Body of Bag 15 ins [38 cm] wide by 23 ins [58.5 cm] long. With RS facing tog, fold Bag widthwise. Blanket st sides of Bag tog.
With side seam facing fold 2 bottom corners of Bag flat. Sew straight across 1� ins [3 cm] down from top corner to form bottom of Bag (see Diagram B). Trim corners, leaving � inch [1.5 cm] seam allowance. Turn Bag right side out.
Trim Handles to measure 24 ins [61 cm] long. Sew Handles in position as illustrated.
Trim Cord for Motif to measure 33 ins [25.5 cm] long. Form Cord into shape and use small hand stitches to tack each successive loop as it is formed and tiny invisible stitches to attached the finished Motif to Bag (see Diagram below).
Sew snap fasteners on inside.
