Decor - Open Windows Afghan & Pillow (knit)

Simple, calming squares alternate soft colors and textures. Afghan measures approx. 40 x 56 inches (101.5 x 142 cm) and pillow approx. 16 inches (40.5 cm) square. Shown in Patons Decor knit using size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) needles.

Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Size 4.5 (U.S. 7) circular knitting needle 36 ins [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain tension. 16 ins [40.5 cm] square pillow form for Pillow.

TENSION: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

AFGHAN
PAT 1:
1st row: (RS). With MC, knit.
2nd row: K1. P38. K1.
These 2 rows form Pat 1.

PAT 2: (multiple of 4 sts).
1st and 2nd rows: With A, K2. P2.
3rd and 4th rows: P2. K2.
These 4 rows form Pat 2.

PAT 3 (multiple of 2 sts).
1st row: (WS). With B, K1. P1.
2nd row: Purl.
These 2 rows form Pat 3.

Panel I: (make 3).
With MC, cast on 40 sts.
Beg with RS of work facing, work 11 ins [28 cm] in Pat 1, ending on a 2nd row.
Next row: (RS). With A, knit.
Work 3 ins [7.5 cm] in Pat 2, ending on a 2nd or 4th row.
Next row: (RS). With B, knit.
Work 11 ins [28 cm] in Pat 3, ending on a 1st row.
Beg with RS of work facing and MC, work 3 ins [7.5 cm] in Pat 1, ending on a 2nd row.
Next row: (RS). With A, knit.

With MC and circular needle, pick up and knit 180 sts across upper edge of Afghan. Knit 2 rows. Cast off. Rep for lower edge.

PILLOW
Back and Front (make alike)
With MC, cast on 22 sts, with B, cast on 44 sts, with MC, cast on 22 sts.
**1st row: (RS). With MC, K22. With B, K44. With MC, K22.
2nd row: With MC, P22. With B, K44. With MC, P22.
3rd row: With MC, K22. With B, (K1. P1) 22 times. With MC, K22.
Rep last 2 rows 12 times more, then 2nd row once.**
